Lau is first male winner at Avon Malaysia annual sales leadership award

Lau Kong Ung from Sibu, Sarawak who ventured into the beauty products market, proved the world wrong by becoming the first male to win the first prize in the Sales Leadership Category at Avon Malaysia Awards Night recently. He created history of sorts when he beat all the other contestants with sales of RM2 million last year. 

“I joined Avon in 2007 with the hope of increasing my family’s standards of living, but this far exceeded my dreams,” said Lau who is an Avon senior executive sales leader. The father of three has 2,564 downlines, and helped three of them to achieve the Senior Executive Sales Leader status and was eligible for the Avon car allowance programme. He said 2012 was a challenging year as he lost his downline at the leadership level and it affected his sales for the first four months. However, it did not break his spirit. Instead, it propelled him to work even harder. The subsequent months’ sales shot up even higher. 

 “Avon’s marketing plan gives me the opportunity to recruit downlines up to three generations. I have 2,564 people as my downline and if the upline does not move, don’t wait. Instead develop the downline from the second and third generation. Remind the downlines on the possible incomes and great rewards given by Avon in each campaign,” he said.

He added that the plan was very easy, just be diligent and identify potential downlines, plan, train and help them to achieve the Senior Executive Sales Leader status.Also, inform them of the sales target for the year and educate them on how to achieve the target. Encourage and reward them with prizes, he said. “What I notice is that the sales dealers do not learn about new products and do not know about the programmes offered by Avon that is beneficial to them. If they know that the programmes allow them to win vacations overseas, I’m sure they will work hard for it,” said Lau. He said as a leader, he also helped his downline to do sales calculation so that they hit their target. As some even did not know how to use computers, he had to drop by and help them personally. He was happy that his down lines who previously had never left the country, could enjoy overseas vacation three times a year now.

For 2013, he target to produced two Senior Executive Sales Leaders. Avon’s motivation programme had greatly helped to improve the dealers’ self confidence. Apart from that, in Avon, members are like family, working close together to hit the target and enjoy rewards together, especially during overseas trips, he said.
